Atlee Rodney

Commissioner of Police, Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda

Atlee Patrick Rodney was confirmed as Commissioner of Police of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda on February 19, 2020.

During his 38 years of service with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Commissioner Rodney has served with the Special Service Unit, Narcotics Squad, All Saints Police Station, Barbuda Police Station, Criminal Investigations Department, Police Training Academy as Chief Instructor, and Staff Officer to the Office of Commissioner of Police. Additionally, he was one of the first DARE officers who taught drug and violence prevention in primary schools, worked in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, and served as a Prosecutor in the Magistrate Court. He is a regional instructor and facilitator, and has conducted law enforcement training courses across the region.

In January 2020, he was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) for his service to his country and the Eastern Caribbean region. The Queen’s Police Medal is awarded to police officers in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth of Nations for gallantry or distinguished service.

Commissioner Rodney served as Acting Commissioner for more than 22 months before his confirmation. After his confirmation, Commissioner Rodney used to opportunity to encourage the men and women under his command to remain committed and united in their efforts to make Antigua and Barbuda a safer nation. 

Commissioner Rodney is an engaged member of the ILEA Roswell Alumni Community. In March 2019, he participated in the pilot Executive Policy and Development Symposium on Transnational Organized Crime – Anti-Corruption and Media Relations as Acting Commissioner of Police. In February 2020, he attended the inaugural ILEA Roswell Alumni Workshop in Bridgetown, Barbados, which aimed to foster a spirit of continual law enforcement professional development and encourage collaboration among alumni in the Eastern Caribbean. During the Alumni Workshop, Commissioner Rodney noted, “This is yet another great opportunity for networking by allowing the alumni to come together, and I think out of this workshop we can build on the relationship that we established when we first met [...] I think it gives us another opportunity to see what is happening in the region and what needs to be done to address the challenges.”
